Sand Filter FAQ

How long does sand last in a sand filter?

Sand typically lasts about 7-10 years. The older it is, the more compact it gets and the better it filters.

Consider using an alternative media such as Activate, a glass filter media designed to provide you with clearer, cleaner, healthier water that will never need to be replaced.

Why do I have water coming out of my backwash hose?

If you have water coming out of your backwash hose, you will need to replace the spider gasket that is located under the multiport handle. You will need to remove all the screws and the keyway assembly; the gasket will be located on underneath. Every multiport has a different size and design for a replacement, so you will need to get the part number before coming into the store to buy a new one. A silicone adhesive will need to be applied to the bottom of the spider gasket before it is put back into the multiport body. For a temporary fix, you can put a ball valve on the backwash port of the multiport to stop the water from draining out.

Why is my pressure gauge is reading high?

When your pressure gauge is reading too high, the filter needs to be back-washed.
